Lemon Eucalyptus
Corymbia citriodora · OLE / PMD
A tall Australian gum tree whose leaves yield a bright, citrusy oil. Its best studied compound is PMD, short for para-menthane-3,8-diol.
What the research says
Crush a lemon eucalyptus leaf and the lemony smell comes largely from citronellal. When that oil is refined, the citronellal converts to PMD, which is the compound most of the published research on this plant is about.
